Music to Remember is included with our Alzheimer’s and dementia care program.
Music to Remember was created to utilize the power of music to enrich the lives of those struggling with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Songs that are meaningful to a person’s past can help to create a powerful emotional response which can help improve the quality of life.
In advanced stages of dementia, when almost everything has been forgotten, musical memories often remain as one of the last coherent connections an individual has to his/her surroundings. Listening to familiar music provides meaningful stimulation for the person with dementia and can often facilitate connections between them and their family caregiver(s).
Study after study have shown the benefits of music therapy to both the senior AND their caregiver. Music can help relieve irritability and anxiety as well as help improve, retain and form new memories Additionally, music provides a meaningful activity to help make each day more pleasant for both the caregiver and the person with dementia.
After learning the age and musical preference of your loved one, we download a custom playlist to an MP3 player. We do our best to make sure that each playlist is meaningful and relevant to each person. After the device is programmed, we meet with the family caregivers to instruct them on the use of the MP3 player.
Our Music to Remember program includes chargers, speakers/headphones and MP3 player filled with relevant music and simple instructions.
